Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Visits Foundation Academy of Amsterdam

On 26 May, Foundation Academy of Amsterdam had the honour of welcoming Archbishop Thabo Makgoba, Archbishop of Cape Town, for a special encounter with our students and staff.
During an inspiring conversation, the Archbishop reflected on the meaning of hope in times marked by injustice, xenophobia, ecological crisis, and growing social division. Together with students, he explored how hope is not simply optimism, but a courageous commitment to justice, reconciliation, and human dignity.
The Archbishop encouraged our students to continue becoming catalysts of change within their communities and beyond. He also warmly affirmed the mission and vision of the Academy and its commitment to education, dialogue, and social transformation.
As the successor of Desmond Tutu and a close friend of Nelson Mandela, Archbishop Makgoba shared moving reflections from his own experiences of faith, leadership, and public engagement in South Africa and internationally.
Public Lecture – 3 June
Students, staff, and friends of the Academy are warmly invited to attend the Archbishop’s public lecture on 3 June at the English Reformed Church from 19:30–21:00.
Participation is free of charge, but registration is obligatory. We encourage everyone to register in advance.
