Remembering Dr. Simon Ririhena (1949 - 2024): A Tribute to a Distinguished Theologian



Dr. Simon Ririhena, a Pioneer of Inter-contextual Theology and Founder of the Center for Theology of Migration, Laid to Rest!


It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our esteemed colleague and friend, Dr. Simon Ririhena. Dr. Ririhena, a renowned theologian and scholar, was a foundational member of our academy and a beacon of inspiration for us all. Dr. Ririhena was a close friend and a brother to Dr. Samuel Lee, our president. He was a specialist in inter-contextuality and founder of the Center for Theology of Migration, at Vrije Universiteit. He served as the Chair of the Center for Non-Western Theologians at Foundation Academy of Amsterdam, where his invaluable contributions to the fields of non-western theologies, left an indelible mark on the academic community.


Dr. Simon Ririhena's legacy will live on through his scholarly works and the many lives he has impacted.

We remember Dr. Ririhena for his unwavering commitment to promoting the importance of intercultural dialogue and understanding. His work has touched the lives of countless students, scholars, and individuals, both within our academy and beyond its walls.

We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. Dr. Ririhena was laid to rest on March 28th, surrounded by his loved ones. May he rest in peace, and may his spirit continue to guide us as we strive to uphold the values he held dear.
